In this blog, I wanted to talk about a famous French dancer or choreographer. A few things about this blog: it's late- I was trying to find good and correct information about my person and it's also in English because I want everyone to be able to understand and I'll explain why at the end.
Isadora Duncan helped shape modern/contemporary dance into what it is today. She was actually born in America in 1877, but spent much of her professional dance career in France. Many consider her to be the mother of modern dance. Her inspiration came from Greek myths and other classics. She stressed things like improvisation and emotion in her pieces. She founded 3 different dance schools to help young girls learn her technique (there was an attempt to include boys, but it was unsuccessful). Her push toward more natural movement than in ballet, open costumes and emotional expressions were highly influential on other dancers. Even though her schools did not survive for long, her work had impact in the arts.
I decided to write this blog in French because I wanted everyone to be able to understand how influential she was to the world of modern dance (which is HUGE, to those of you who don't know). She broke many boundaries with her movement and her technique is still presented in classes and in the Isadora Duncan Dance Company. Here is the link to her company website in case you are interested!
Au revoir!
